This impact report presents the achievements and learning of the Environmentally Sound and Climate Resilient Transformation of Humanitarian WASH (ECT WASH) programme across 13 countries (14 contexts) between 2024 and 2025. ECT WASH itself is a joint programme of Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB), arche nova (AN), and German Toilet Organisation (GTO) that is funded by German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) and Aktion Deutscland Hilft (ADH). This report highlights how community-driven, inclusive, and climate-resilient approaches have improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services in vulnerable and crisis-affected settings.
Reaching over 422,000 people in 128 communities, the programme combines emergency response with long-term solutions, including renewable energy systems, nature-based water management, and disaster risk reduction strategies. A strong focus on gender equality, disability inclusion, and local leadership ensures that interventions are equitable and sustainable.
Beyond infrastructure, the report showcases real stories of change—demonstrating how access to clean water, inclusive sanitation, and climate knowledge strengthens resilience, improves health, and empowers communities. Through partnerships, innovation, and local ownership, ECT WASH contributes to building a future where vulnerable populations can better adapt to climate challenges while securing dignified and sustainable WASH services.
