Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) is a German relief and social-welfare organisation engaged in a wide range of social service provision in Germany and abroad. ASB started working in Indonesia in 2006 following the Yogyakarta earthquake and in the Philippines in 2014 following Typhoon Haiyan. In the process, we have expanded our work to Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. ASB South and South-East Asia (ASB S-SEA) is committed to strengthening individuals, communities, organisations, networks, and decision makers’ capacities to create positive change, and enhance societies’ ability to manage risk. ASB is also a founding member of Disability-inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Network (DiDRRN), leading collective efforts to influence inclusion and disaster management in regional and global policy.

ASB believes that disaster risk reduction and resilience strengthening efforts can only be relevant if they consider the needs and capacities of most at-risk groups, including persons with disabilities. ASB fosters strong partnerships with local government, CSOs, and OPDs, demonstrating the ‘how-to’ of disability inclusion. Our all-of-society approach shapes policies and frameworks locally, nationally, regionally, and globally. ASB champions the leadership of persons of disabilities, driving disability-inclusive DRR, humanitarian response, socio-economic development, and climate action policies and practices at all levels.
