Handovering the Keeping School Safe from Disaster Programme

Evacuation simulation involving school childrean and village authority in Magelang

In the last 15 years, 46.648 schools in Indonesia were affected by disasters (National Secretariat of the Disaster Resilience Education Unit, 2017). Followed by a fact that the geographical location of Magelang District has made it prone to various natural hazards, ASB started the “Keeping School Safe from Disaster” Programme in early 2017, with supports from Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Deutsche Telekom. For about 17 month, ASB Team collaborated with various stakeholders, including the Local Disaster Management Agency, Education Office, village authorities and disabled people’s organisations, reached 81 primary schools and special education schools as well as 4 villages in Magelang District.

Last month, ASB Team organised a handover workshop in which key achievements, best practices and lessons learned of the programme were showcased. More than 15.000 people has been reached through this programme, including school children, teachers, school committees, disabled people’s organisations and community members of 4 villages.
