This year our annual monitoring visit by the government of Indonesia was to the remote Mentawai islands off Sumatra.
ASB works under a Memorandum of Understanding with Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs coordinated through the Directorate General for Rural and Community Empowerment. We are always pleased to host this annual visit from colleagues from the inter-Ministerial team and this year was no exception.
ASB has been implementing a large-scale DRR education project in the Mentawai under support from the German Federal Foreign Ministry. This project is the first of its kind and targets all primary schools in the remote Mentawai islands.
Despite rough seas, government colleagues from Jakarta had the opportunity to see earthquake simulation drills first-hand and to share experiences and hear inputs from children, teachers, community members and local officials.
