ASB Indonesia has been supporting ASB’s response to the devastation following Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines last November.
ASB Indonesia’s Country Director, Dr Alex Robinson, was immediately dispatched to the Philippines and met with ASB’s FAST Team coordinator Mr Axel Schmidt who travelled directly from ASB headquarters in Germany.
Alex and Axel completed a rapid assessment that resulted in the dispatch of medical doctors and nurses from ASB’s FAST Medical Team from Germany. The ASB Fast Team partnered with the Belgian government’s B-Fast Team who were providing immediate emergency surgery services near Tacloban, Leyte. ASB complimented and continued this work by providing primary health care at the same location until January 2014.
Currently, ASB Indonesia is developing a strategy to continue supporting the recovery efforts in the Philippines through working in partnership with local civil society organisations in the region.
ASB’s work in the Philippines is supported by our partner Aktion-Deutschland-Hilft
